Associate Professor in Political Science, Aarhus University

Suthan Krishnarajan

I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at Aarhus University.

I do research on why so many ordinary citizens in Western democracies vote for undemocratic leaders. Most people value democracy, support it, and believe it’s important to live in a democratic system. But when their political side acts undemocratically—forcing them to choose between party loyalty and democratic principles — most stick with their party.

My current research focuses on (1) why citizens behave this way. (2) how they reason about these issues. And (3) what can be done to strengthen democratic commitments.
